New Layoffs Coming Soon To HP

: " Ed Note: HP CEO Carly Fiorina is one of America's biggest outsourcers. If you work at HP and you don't live in India or Mexico, prepare yourself for unemployment.

JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT HP could sink no lower, the goddess of airplanes and iPods does it again. A fresh bout of layoffs appears to be on the cards but for some reason such announcements are being delayed.
The whole affair centres around the current and ongoing round of outsourcing and layoffs that you probably have not heard about yet. There are strong rumours and several people telling me that as soon as HP's fiscal year ends in a few weeks, there will be a massive round of job cuts, many of which will move offshore. Some sources are telling me it is in the thousands, another said it is ten to fifteen thousand. Either way, the rumour is that they are devastating and and deep cuts.
The jobs are not going away, in the vanish sense of the word, they are going away in the outsourced sense to Mexico and India. Yes, if you live near an HP office in either of those two countries, line up now, decent money is coming your way in weeks.
Some of the cuts, like those in the storage division, have already happened, and the people leaving are forced to sign restrictive NDAs so they can't talk about it. Jobs are scarce in the Northeast, and more than half a year's severance is worth rolling over for, no dishonor there. Others are still in the planning stages. Managers have already been asked to pick out what jobs are viable for offshoring in several locations, but they have to keep it quiet for now.
Why? Elections are coming up soon, and several of Carly's friends have recently vetoed anti-outsourcing measures. Think there is any backscratching going on here? My sources said the only reason these cuts were delayed was for political reasons, come early November they will be announced. The cover story is they were waiting for the end of the fiscal year before they announced it.
HP has had a long history of layoffs in the last two years, but it has normally announced those up front. This time, it appears to be delaying such announcements.
It must be nice to have friends like Carly has, and it must be nice to be a friend of Carly's, but if you work for HP, I honestly feel bad for you. There is something you can do to keep your job though, vote. I am not trying to take sides here, and have specifically not mentioned any political leanings in this article. It makes no difference whether a politician is left or right leaning, they have all taken a stand on outsourcing in deeds or works. If you work for HP, or care about things like this, call the office of the people you are going to vote for and tell them this type of behavior is simply unacceptable.
Don't email, that is ignored, pick up the phone and politely but firmly tell them that your vote depends on them standing up to people like Carly who play games with people's livelihoods. If politicians reward things like this with publicity and tax breaks, they won't get your vote. Stand up people, don't be sheep.
So, the sad summary is it looks like there are four or five digits of soon to be ex-HP workers who have unknowingly become political footballs. Current and past HP actions and inactions are better than a roadmap to those watching closely. I wonder how much of a bonus she will get as she rides off into the sunset of political office for having to make such 'hard decisions'. Go vote.µ
